My first Windows Server 2016 VM is up and going… just to have a play with and to see what's what :D
Talking to Pete Calvet at yesterdays Adelaide SharePoint User Group has made me wanting to look it a bit further into it, to see how through a SharePoint Developer lens it all comes together.
So here is my first look at it… install from iso… Thanks Michael!)
Windows Server 2016 Standard is selected by default….. Yes… CORE is selected for the default installation type!
As many of you many know… since Windows Server 2008 Core I’ve been trying, unsuccessfully… even asking at the MVP summit in 2009 to the Windows Server Program Manager (his name escapes me and google aint helping) and the SharePoint Team directly (Dave and Joel!) about support for SharePoint with Core and if was on the road map at all)
My reasoning is… what in SharePoint is required to do via the local console these days? Remote PowerShell can solve most problems…. SharePoint by default is a web application…. SPD.. etc..
I’m keen to give this a try on the default installation type for SharePoint and to see what happens! If all else fails… reboot the VM and start again is easy enough! (its just a test domain)
I was going to post the install pictures… but I think we are over seeing Windows install… I agree… Install… watch files install done!
And…. first boot is… change password! (what's that on the end of text?)
and….. Command Prompt (powershell? :( )
So… its now time to join to the domain, get another instance of SQL Server firing away and get this VM prep’d for SharePoint 2016 install for testing.. more posts to continue.. with scripts!
More to come!
(BTW here is what Windows Server 2016 first boot with a GUI looks like.. Windows 10 Server!)
